Welding technologies
- Pulsed nonconsumable-arc welding of aluminium-lithium and other high-strength light alloys of various alloying systems for critical products fabrication. The technology provides an improvement of the welds quality and their strength by 10-15%;
- Pulsed metal-arc welding of sheet structures (1-4 mm) for fabrication and repair of boats, launches, ship superstructures, equipment for food and chemical industry, tank trucks, pipelines, etc. The technology ensures a high efficiency of the process, reduction of the structure distortion and welding cost;
- Electron beam and laser welding and surfacing of aluminium alloys for fabrication of large-sized shells and tanks, stringer panels, structures of heat-exchanger units, household appliances and instruments, pistons with cooling cavities and with strengthened ring grooves. The technology provides a high quality and stability of the mechanical properties of 0.5 to 350 mm thick permanent joints;
- Joining by various processes the dissimilar metals and aluminium-based composites with fibre (steel, silicon carbide, carbon, boron) and dispersion (oxides, carbides, intermetallics) strengthening. The technologies and materials are used in ship-building, car-making, aerospace engineering products, electrical engineering, in welding aluminium and its alloys to steels, copper and to other metals;
- Development of welding (filler) wires containing highly-effective modifiers: Ti, Zr, Sc, which provide high technological and strength characteristics of the aluminium alloy joints.
The department provides consultations, practical training opportunities, substantiated experts' reports, carries out the expertise of the welded structures designs in terms of adaptability to manufacture, directly participates in establishing the fabrication of light alloy products.
